PETERSBURG — News anchor Reginald Roundtree of WTSP Channel 10 was fired Friday, the station’s parent company said.
Roundtree’s termination followed an internal review, Anne Bentley, a spokeswoman for TEGNA Inc., said in an email Friday to the Tampa Bay Times.
Bentley declined to elaborate, saying TEGNA — based in Virginia and with 49 television stations nationwide — doesn't comment on personnel matters.
Roundtree could not immediately be reached for comment.
Roundtree, 60, had worked for CBS-affiliate WTSP more than 20 years, according to his online biography, most recently as the night news anchor.
He previously worked as a Miami police officer and got his first TV job at WPEC Channel 12 in West Palm Beach. He was born in Daytona Beach and raised in New York and Miami. News of the termination had not been posted Friday afternoon at the WTSP website, but Roundtree’s photo was gone from the site’s “Meet the team” Channel 10 anchor Reginald Roundtree fired after two decades WUS
